Drew Wegner, our intern extraordinaire, is heading back to college on a full academic scholarship from the University of California, Los Angeles. Drew will be entering his second year at UCLA as a Political Science and Public Policy Major.
This is also the second year Drew has served as an intern and Special Assistant to the President / CEO at the Rancon Group. Schedule willing, he plans on returning again next summer.
“I enjoy spending the summer here and working on all the projects,” says Drew. “The people are great and it’s a chance for me to experience working in a professional environment. It’s also given me a chance to meet some great people and interact with numerous governmental agencies.”
Drew is on track to graduate from UCLA in just three years. He plans on pursuing an MBA at Stanford and then a degree in law.
“I think it’s safe to say that Drew has political aspirations,” says Jeff Comerchero, President and CEO at the Rancon Group. “He’s quick coming up to speed, and he is comfortable at multi-tasking, both of which come in handy when you’re in politics. And, he’s got the charisma that wins elections.”
In addition to his case-load at UCLA, Drew writes political analysis for “The Bruin Standard,” one of two newspapers on campus. He is also a member of the Bruin Republicans and the Undergraduate Business Society.
In high school, Drew started a club on campus called The Young Conservatives. It became the most popular club at the school and won Drew an invitation as a Student Delegate to the National League of Cities conference in Washington D.C. While there, he met First Lady Michelle Obama and U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer.
Drew has had an opportunity to attend several conferences as part of his studies and has met General Colin Powell, and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. He recently participated in a telephone conference call with Vice President Joe Biden.
At the Rancon Group, Drew has been involved in several marketing projects and outreach programs. He recently contributed significantly to a five-year plan for a major project. As an adjunct to all his hard work, Drew has also been in charge of organizing a variety of summer events and outings for Rancon Group personnel. In his spare time, he’s managed to learn how to play golf, and has established himself as an outstanding ping pong player.
“Drew has definitely contributed to our success as a company over the summer, and he’s also brought a lot of fun to the mix by helping to organize tournaments and outings,” says Comerchero. “We know he will be working hard at UCLA to achieve his goals during the next nine months and we wish him well in that endeavor. And, if things work out, we look forward to seeing him again next year.”
